Fair Usage Policy
Plain language on how we manage uncapped and contended services so every business on the network gets a fair, quality experience.
1. Why a Fair Usage Policy exists
Uncapped and managed services are delivered over shared capacity. A very small number of continuously maxed-out connections can degrade service for everyone else on the same segment. This policy — part of our Terms & Conditions — explains how we keep that fair.
2. What "uncapped" means here
Uncapped means we do not charge per gigabyte and do not cut you off at a data cap. It does not mean unlimited speed at all times: speed and latency on managed services depend on the technology (fibre, licensed wireless, LTE, satellite), the contention ratio of your product and real-time network load.
3. Traffic prioritisation
To protect the applications businesses depend on, we prioritise real-time and business traffic — voice (SIP/VoIP), video conferencing, VPN, DNS, web and email — over bulk, non-time-critical traffic such as peer-to-peer file sharing, public cloud bulk sync and large unattended downloads, particularly during peak hours.
4. When we manage individual connections
If a connection's sustained usage materially and persistently degrades other clients on the same segment, we will first notify you and offer options (a usage window, a product better suited to the load, or a dedicated upgrade). If the impact continues, we may shape or throttle that specific connection's bulk traffic during congestion until the impact is resolved. We do not throttle by secret thresholds: any management is traffic-class based, explained to you, and never applied to voice or business-critical classes.
5. Wireless, LTE and satellite services
These products carry higher natural contention and are supplied as described in clause 5 (Service levels) of our Terms: speeds are best-effort maximums. Fair usage on these products additionally accounts for radio conditions, weather and cell-sector load.
6. No hidden caps
We publish no arbitrary usage cut-offs on uncapped products. If we ever introduce a product with a hard cap, the cap will be stated in that product's quotation and invoice.
